‘Leaves, Sadness, Science’ by Marilyn Carino

marilyn-carino-headshot-arms-spread

Marilyn Carino is best known for her electronic-fusion music and her latest album, Leaves, Sadness, Science exhibits some of her best work in the genre to date. Having shared stages with Black Star and David Byrne, Carino’s album fuses soul and even hip-hop with her favoured electro style and also features R.E.M bassist, Mike Mills.

The whole album was written, recorded and mastered by Marilyn herself, combining complex beats and rhythms with deep synths and spacey vibes. Her long time practice of Nichiren Buddhism is the force that forms her songs into gripping, graphic internal monologues that explore themes of sex and radical self-expression. As a result, her music has been labelled as ‘enchanting’ and her voice has been given the accolade of ‘powerful to the point of bringing you to tears’.

Carino recorded her first album at Neil Young’s studio with Crazy Horse bassist Billy Talbot producing. She then flew to London on a one-way ticket and stayed for a year working as an engineer in reggae recording studios. Upon returning to the U.S. she co-founded the vintage electronic group Mudville, producing three critically acclaimed albums and wrote lyrics for the great producers Sly and Robbie (Grace Jones, Simply Red). Mudville’s song ‘Wicked’ won the 2008 Independent Music Award for Best Song. She recorded and produced her first solo album ‘Little Genius’ in 2011, and recently contributed vocals and lyrics to the Words Hurt indie hip hop collective’s ‘Fuck That Pretty Boy Shit’, featuring Samuel T. Herring, vocalist of Future Islands.

Norwegian pop sensation Line Mari is set to release her debut album ‘21 Days’ on Friday 16th December after being approached by major music producer Rob Cass. He saw her potential and invited her over to Abbey Road Studios where she began working on her debut album, with the help of cutting edge producer Pearse MacIntyre. Bursting with fresh young vibes ’21 Days’ demonstrates Line Mari’s powerful and distinctive vocals whilst still having a rock infused edge.

The album cover itself is really special – exclusively for the first edition, a small amount of real gold has been pressed into the ‘21 Days’ logo. The portrait of Line Mari on the cover is the work of upcoming German artist, Pixie Cold, who wanted to be involved simply because she loved the music. On the back side of the CD she has painted Line’s guitar – a special Gibson Custom Shop ES-339, named Mari.

Line Mari dreamt of being a musician from birth, dancing in the womb as her mother explains. Although shy at first, by the time she was in her teens Line Mari was writing her own songs and performing. Her shyness has fuelled her songwriter, making her lyrics more personal, emotive and introspective.

Ethereal and experimental new EP ‘Circus’ from alternative pop artist Daisy and The Dark

‘Somewhere between the ghostly gliding & luscious laments of Kate Bush, the boldness of Björk and the haunting images of Kylie Minogue floating in a lake, comes Sarah Kayte Foster.’ – Backseat Mafia

‘Resplendent, bold and ambitious.  It’s her daringness to experiment  – and those ethereal, oscillating vocals – that sets Daisy and The Dark apart’ – Chart Shaker

Cinematic in atmosphere and brimming with carnivalesque creativity, Circus is the brand new exciting EP from experimental pop artist Daisy and The Dark (aka Sarah Kayte Foster).

Previously a member of classical chart-topping band the Mediaeval Baebes for five years, Sarah left the band in 2014, after charting at No. 8 in the UK Classical Charts with the double album ‘Of Kings and Angels’.

She has since poured her musical talent into a solo career as Daisy, performing theatrical shows at Secret Garden Party and the Royal Albert Hall, and releasing her 2015 debut EP ‘Red Planet’ as a new interactive app which IBM called ‘the best collaboration between music and technology I’ve seen in a long time.’   The record went on to receive a whole host of online coverage, garnering praise from the likes of SupaJam, Chart Shaker and Noizze.

Her new EP ‘Circus’ is set for release July 8th.

A vibrant video directed by BAFTA award winning Shreepali Patel accompanies lead single and title track ‘Circus’, with cinematography coming courtesy of award-winner Nicola Daley – making it one of the few music videos to have an all female team at the helm.

Sarah’s creative energy extends beyond music and she has worked extensively as a professional actress, as well as creating artwork, videos, costume and performance art all inspired, like her songs, by her great love of cinema and magic.

Her ethereal and other-worldly style is sure to appeal to fans of artists like Kate Bush, Bjork, FKA Twigs, Bat for Lashes and David Bowie.

Circus EP will be released on July 8th via Foster’s own label, Red Planet Records, and she will play a special free show at Miranda, Ace Hotel London on July 8th to mark the release.  For limited free guest list contact info@daisyandthedark.com.
